Amplify Digest: The Necessity of Hope
Subscribe to the Amplify Digest: a weekly newsletter designed to help modern HR operators stay on top of the latest news, trends, and resources in all things people.
I won’t be recording my usual Amplify Digest weekly news roundup today.
I write this newsletter with a lingering sense of numbness and heartache after last week’s SCOTUS ruling stripping reproductive freedom from millions of Americans.
I understand some of you reading this digest view that decision as a victory. While I respect your personal choice to hold that belief I do not share it. I fear this decision, and the legal foundation it was based on, opens the door for further erosion of hard-fought rights and freedoms that will impact many more friends, family, colleagues, and others who are just trying to live their lives freely. Particularly people of color and those without the resources and means to have safe healthcare alternatives elsewhere.
This is a difficult and scary time for our country; introducing yet another significant shift to the scope of HR’s responsibilities. Over 50 companies responded with amendments to their healthcare plans offering financial support for employees living in states where their reproductive rights are limited.
I will continue amplifying resources and open-source projects to support those of you who are navigating this new reality, including the two resources below.
In case it’s helpful, this piece on the necessity of hope gave me some needed perspective last week.
Editorial Note: I’m traveling on vacation for the next two weeks; attending RecFest and making memories across Europe with my family. I’m going to unplug so won’t be sending newsletters during the first two weeks of July. The Amplify Digest will continue on July 20th when I return. Take care out there, friends.
This week’s digest explores the impact of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization SCOTUS decision, how companies are responding, resources to support HR practitioners, why job descriptions need to change, leadership support resources, why Microsoft measures thriving instead of engagement, and details on the new Amplify Academy launch.
