HR Goes Open Source

Redefining HR Workshop

If you still believe that the war for talent dictates that your people practices should be trade secrets and competition is zero-sum, you may struggle to keep up with the HR of the future.

HR embracing open-source collaboration got us through the early days of the pandemic. There were no playbooks. We were terrified. Lives were literally on the line based on decisions we made about our workforce.

Our ability to learn from each other in real-time allowed us to meet this moment. If black box silos were still our default operating model, the effects of COVID in our workplaces could have been much worse.

#PayItForward: If you want to contribute to open-source projects but don’t know where to start, see below.

How to Get Started Contributing to Open-Source

  • Review your practices and determine if there are any you do particularly well. It doesn’t have to be “innovative” per se, just really well executed and impactful.

  • Ensure you have permission to share your practice/s publicly (CHRO or Legal)

  • Consider sharing a case study to spotlight your practice/s and allow your peers to learn from you.

  • Key points you may want to share (see template below, in the resources & downloads section):

    • Company intro/background

    • Overview of what you did

    • Overview of why you did it

    • A detailed breakdown of how you did it (this should be detailed enough that a reader could replicate a version in their own organization)

    • Impact & Results (sharing some specific impact metrics will help readers understand the efficacy of the program and are valuable to help them make the case for adoption internally)

    • What to look out for (mistakes made or things you would have done differently with the benefit of hindsight)
