The House That Data Built

Redefining HR Workshop

The revolution will be televised - measured, analyzed, reported, and adapted.

Data by itself is certainly not a new phenomenon in HR. Those of us who remember crunching data on Excel spreadsheets back in the day can attest to that.

What has shifted is that our capabilities now go much deeper than data and reporting. Today’s HR teams are extracting insights from data sets that help shape and influence our people strategy - and the business. From predictive analytics to headcount and turnover forecasting, we now have access to tools are resources to bring data rigor to our people strategy like never before.

The topic of data and people analytics can be intimidating. It’s always the area in which Amplify Academy Cohort students grade themselves the lowest.

This chapter of the book aims to demystify people analytics and make the topic more accessible to HR practitioners. Below, I’m excited to go deeper with practitioner stories, examples, and resources to help learners better understand the field.

REMINDER: Best-in-class people analytics functions are mostly found in Enterprise-level companies. They require tremendous investments in technology and dedicated resources (i.e. data scientists). Unless you work in a similarly well-resourced environment, don't use them as your outcomes to emulate. You can start small and target your resources to address your most pressing issues - even as a startup.

Tip: if you're not already, be sure to follow David Green on LinkedIn. He's consistently one of the leading voices in all things people analytics and writes a monthly recap of top news and trends.
