Amplify Digest: Show Me The Metrics
Subscribe to the Amplify Digest: a weekly newsletter designed to help modern HR operators stay on top of the latest news, trends, and resources in all things people.
Welcome to the Amplify Digest. Every week, I break down five articles in five minutes; discussing the top people news, stories, and resources that are worth your time. Scroll down for links to the articles covered in the video (and more), a helpful thread from the Amplify Accelerator Community, and curated jobs from the Amplify Job Board.
This week’s digest explores Remote’s open-source DEIB framework, Microsoft’s pay increases, Visier’s people metrics that matter to your c-suite, YCombinator’s economic downturn memo, and more.
Greetings from NYC! 🍎
I’m in New York this week for Greenhouse’s OPEN conference so won’t be recording an Amplify Digest video. I did want to share something cool I saw (for the first time). Greenhouse was live captioning the speakers on the conference screens and livestream. It was a cool inclusive feature I haven’t seen before so a big hat tip to them.
Bonus hat tip to Hung Lee (below) whose shirt game was on point!

Welcome to a new series in the Amplify Digest newsletter - Build in Public.
The votes are in! The new Academy Learning Lab will include a range of content and modalities to help navigate the new world of work. One of the formats will be collections of curated “best of” resources on specific topics from communication to managing RIFs. I put it out to my LinkedIn community to name it and we have a clear winner - Learning Stacks!
I’m now heads down building the first full Academy course, a robust guide for first-time Heads of People. More on that next week.
Also, Tuesday marked two firsts for the Academy Academy Cohorts.
1️⃣ Our first alumni (Bravo) who returned as a cohort guest instructor
2️⃣ Our first live in 3D guest instructor AMA
It was wonderful to connect in 3D with Remote’s VP People Nadia Vatalidis. There aren’t many people practitioners out there with as much experience at the intersection of hypergrowth and remote (GitLab, Remote). I’m so glad the Echo Cohort students were able to tap into Nadia’s deep expertise. 🧠
NEW: ✨ Amplify Community Wisdom ✨
The Amplify Accelerator Community was specifically designed to help modern people operators expand their networks, thinking, and connections. Each week, I'll spotlight a helpful thread from the Community to help Amplify Digest subscribers learn from the discussions.
[Question] For folks who do recruiting in-house - what are your MUST have tools, subscriptions etc for success? Thanks in advance!
A1: 1. I would say it would be more important to focus on process and your team over tools. 2. Strong CRM|ATS 3. Sourcing take a look at Fetcher.ai, HireEZ, or Seekout
A2: 100% agree! We have worked A LOT on process and messaging and are happy with it. Of course there is always room for improvement but we think we are in a good place. Our current problem to solve is deciding what tools/job boards we want to invest time and money in to assist with outreach. For example, we only have the "lite" version of LinkedIn Recruiter which is pretty restrictive but cheap. When we had explored the more expansive LinkedIn Recruiter suite, at that time, it was out of our budget. But we are now looking to invest. It is also important to use that we are reaching a large, dynamic scope of candidates, but need to make sure that we are strategic in how many platforms, etc we work with. I know that there have been a lot companies that have popped up to serve this need, eg. Mom Project, HireBlack etc but we will not be able to work with all of them, so was looking for some feedback from the group. Thanks!
A3: I would recommend HireEZ over LinkedIn Recruiter. There are plenty of other ways to source outside of LinkedIn that would not cost as much. Right now I only see two roles available on the site. Bothe ENG roles. Without knowing your hiring roadmap, it would be difficult for anyone to provide more poignant insight. Happy to chat off line.
A4: Gem and LinkedIn recruiter here.
A5: Hi All, just wanted to add that we were very hopeful on the fetcher.ai promise but in the end it didn’t deliver. This was for tech hiring in North America. Love the sharing of tools - great!
A6: Agreed, happy to share more anytime as well but if you don't have an ATS certainly start there. All the other tools everyone suggest are great also. Big fan of gem or topfunnel. LinkedIn is popular as well - if used right can deliver value. I'm a big fan of data and reporting tools to help tell our story also and suggest talentwall, but if you’re not there yet great suggestions from everyone here.
