[Question] Hello! Curious if anyone has gone through any great programs/courses/materials focused on more global HR practices - I currently hold a SHRM-SCP and got a ton of value and learnings out of just studying for that exam, but also know it's solely focused on US practices- looking to expand my HR knowledge skillset to a global scale! Additional context: my company is planning to move me into their first Head of People role by the end of this year, so wanting to make sure I'm prepping myself accordingly, especially being a company distributed globally any insight/recs are super appreciated!!
A1: First, congrats! I cannot speak from experience and would be interested in hearing what others have to say. I am aware of an HR designation with a focus on global: https://www.hrci.org/our-programs/which-certification-is-right-for-you
A2: Congrats!!!! I thought about this a lot in the past so that might be more available now but even now that I live in France what I find the most helpful is getting to know peers in the countries and asking them what's different. The laws take the longest and I recommend hiring someone more junior on the team or a local consultant or employment counsel. At the end of the day I was worried I needed to know a lot more than I really needed to know. And Lars’ cohort is global so if you're looking for learning that could be a great place to start and connect with global peers.
A3: Also, while I don't have HRCI's global cert (because I took their exam before the global one was introduced), I find that in scaling tech the executives do not value the certifications so I feel like they are only worth the time investment if it's your preferred method of learning.
A4: Thanks. Agree with the local consultant or employment counsel bit also. This was the route we took when growing into Egypt. My gut was telling me the same for HRCI. Good to hear your thoughts and thanks for sharing.
A5: Very, very helpful- thank you so much!
A6: There is a free course through Oyster if you’re interested https://www.oysterhr.com/academy
