Unplug. In today’s world of connectedness that’s getting more and more difficult to do. We’re slaves to our mobile and i-devices, and the idea of 9-5 is far from reality for most of us. Many of us have turned our backs on work-life balance, and now seek out a healthy work-life blend.
No matter what field you’re in, if your work involves social media (particularly managing corporate accounts) you know this all too well.
There are many automation tools that allow you to schedule tweets, but that puts you in broadcast mode and doesn’t account for conversation and engagement – so isn’t sustainable for very long. As it becomes more difficult to set boundaries and maintain a healthy balance, it also becomes more important.
Am I great at setting those boundaries? Not really - but I want to be. I just returned from a wedding in Jamaica so was beholden to wifi. I didn’t unplug entirely, but I made a conscious effort to avoid email. Guess what happened? Nothing. The sky didn't fall and the world didn’t end. It allowed me to detach, albeit briefly, from the day-to-day stresses of the job and constant connectedness. It’s something I will do more often. You should too.
And now, your moment of zen.
